Rules Question
OK. I'm back. I signed up for this google mail crap. i've exited the hyperbaric chamber in which i've been hibernating in suspended animation since the last day of the baseball regular season. I emerge with a question regarding our league rules. would it be legal for me to trade, say, Jon Papelbon to a team that doesn't plan on using all 8 of their keeper slots in return for my team receiving one of their keeper slots? i would then be keeping 9 guys, but i would be 'paying' for the right. will we let free markets create opportunity for the lower fantasy classes or will we over-regulate everything like tax-achusetts? support me omar.
David Brooks & Self Loathing
"Last fall, I taught a political theory course at Duke University, as part of my lifelong quest to teach at every college I never could have gotten into out of high school."
Is Duke that hard to get into? I didnt look at schools south of the Mason-Dixon that were east of LA.
I doubt anyone else reads them, but David Brooks is all over the place these days.
Guy who are on the block for me: everyone not named Frank Thomas.

Wright, Berkman on the block
(AP Wire, Philadelphia, Feb. 5, 2007)
David Wright (1st round) and Lance Berkman (4th round) are available, with the hope of an ace starter or speedy outfielder in return. Cheap young starters Scott Kazmir (16th round), Chris Capuano (24th round) and Justin Verlander (21st round) are available to supplement any deal.
Mike Carter was quoted as thinking that "my team is f*ed for 2007" and that "fantasy baseball is for losers." But, notwithstanding team physician Becky Bernstein's hopes, Carter plans on spending "copious" amounts of time leading his team to 4th place.

Mourning
The blog is mourning the loss of innocence that has come from rex grossman losing the superbowl (he alone lost the superbowl, nobody won).
that and i think it looks better.
rex is dead to me now. the clock is starting on his departure. bring in a black qb to go with our (apparently) black coach. i dont see color.

Propaganda
Posted to facebook, but hey, why not put it on the blog. Also, I thought I would be excited for this superbowl, but I'm not. I really just don't care. I expect an overwhelming Colts victory, unless it rains. I'll be thrilled if the Bears win. Manning's a loser. All I care about is chewing gum and kicking ass at Pub Trivia...and I'm all out of bubble gum (name the film).

I was checking out CNN today and came across a story containing this photo and the headline "Church destroyed, but worship goes on after tornado." I haven't seen propaganda this blatant for a while and it made me wonder who the story was aimed at. Is it simply news-as-niche marketing? Or is it trying to connect us (especially through the photo) to a mythical average-yet-noble, church-going America as the repository of the nation's virtue. Either way, it's cynical. However sociologically interesting it may be, it's a shame that 9/11's New York "ground zero" is becoming the central symbol in the iconography of disaster; to be trivialized by every huckster (be they victim or photojournalist) who uses it to appeal to the national gaze.

Finally, ESPN shows that some people actually think the bears will win
While i realize the Bears are a 7 point underdog and that Peyton Manning is suddenly 'clutch', ESPN for the past 10 days has not shown or posted any people talking about the bears winning. I was expecting their 'expert' picks to be all blue and white but they actually gave a few people the option of choosing the Bears.
The only smart ESPN 'experts' are as follows:
Gene Wojciechowski
Jeremy Green
Eric Allen (this makes up for picking the Lions to win the division)
Scoop Jackson .... never mind. he's still an idiot
KC Joyner - my favorite espn football analyst
5/18 isn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. i figured the bears had scoop in the bag, the 4 others are actually surprising. Wojciechowski because he has been dogging the Bears all season. He even wrote a column after the Saints game about having to finally eat crow. Jeremy Green ... i dont know who he is. Eric Allen picked the Lions and as such i can't respect his opinion.
That leaves me with Joyner who is a football sabermatrician and a huge film/stat guy who i figured would go Colts because he has written articles about how different the bears defense has been without brown and harris and that how Rex Grossman broke the record for near interceptions (shattering Eli's record from last year).
I only hope he ran his numbers and came up with the Bears.
I still have $100 im willing to wager on this game. Any takers or just haters? I'll even make it Bears + 6.5 to sweeten the deal.

If anyone hears anything about an apartment available for the summer, please let me know. Any part of Chicago is fine, but south side preferred. Craigslist is not getting it down right now...

Aqua Teen Business
This completely blows my mind. I know it's not news to anyone here, but here's a useful Fox Link. Watch the video of the commentators being weenies and of the "hoaxers" speaking.
I don't understand how this is a "hoax"--the devices were not designed to look like bombs or to scare a city. It's inept government that thought they were bombs. As one lady said, it's getting too easy to be a terrorist these days.
Here's another good link that makes my case for me.

Oh Joe
After calling Obama "nice" and "clean" he responded by saying:“Barack Obama is probably the most exciting candidate that the Democratic or Republican party has produced at least since I’ve been around,” he said, adding: “Call Senator Obama. He knew what I meant by it. The idea was very straightforward and simple. This guy is something brand new that nobody has seen before.”
Or, more concisely: "I'm no racist. You know what I mean."
Joe Biden
That was fun, while it lasted. From the Times:
"By the end of the day on Wednesday, Democrats were asking only half-jokingly whether Mr. Biden might be remembered for having the shortest-lived presidential campaign in the history of the Republic."
Also, it appears that Biden ran in 1988 - with the following result:
"For Mr. Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, it was an inauspicious beginning to his first presidential campaign since 1988, when he dropped out after acknowledging using without attribution portions of a speech from a British politician."
Andy, who is next on the list?

Favre
The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
The thing is, I'm usually very skeptical of these sorts of comments, but I don't really doubt this one at all.
With Favre's future undecided, Green Bay fans might wonder how the veteran quarterback is spending his time while weighing whether or not to return for a 16th season with the Packers.
"He was power-washing the driveway when I talked to him," McCarthy told the newspaper.

Omar the Red
Omar, that was a beautiful video. The beginning made me so sad...no one loved that sweet bear. No one! But one hug...one hug changes everything. And the hug was free! Free love = community happiness and sunshine. Clearly, this video means that the Chicago Bears = Communism. Rex Grossman is Zinoviev.
According to my calculations, the market would value hugs from such a lovable, skipping bear at six Harold's wings. A three-piece white with extra mild if it's cloudy.
